Vikrant Massey-Yami Gautam's Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag Lyricist Mohsin Shaikh Talks About Collaborating With Mika Singh, Badshah And Neha Kakar- EXCLUSIVE
We spoke to the lyricist Mohsin Shaikh, who has penned lyrics for the recreated version of Mika Singh's famous number- Saawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag. Here's what he had to say
Yami Gautam and Vikrant Massey's version Of Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag from their upcoming film Ginny Weds Sunny is breaking the Internet. The song which has a deadly combination of singers like Badshah, Mika Singh and Neha Kakar is written by Payal Dev and Mohsin Shaikh.
The music composer turned lyricist Mohsin had an exclusive conversation with SpotboyE.com just after release of the song where he revealed to us what all he kept in his mind while taking this popular dance number one notch higher.
Mohsin told us he tried to keep the dance number massy and classy at the same time. He said, "Since the song itself is a blockbuster song and has so much energy in it, I made sure that lyrically it does justice to the new as well as original version, Hence as a lyricist, while writing this particular song, I’ve made sure that it’s both massy and classy. I’ve written it keeping today’s generation in mind by adding lots of quirks in the lyrics and few punch lines and dialogues in the song. Lyrically it has lots of drama in the song which also relates to the brief of the film .This new version is more upbeat and foot tapping. And I feel this fresh combination of lyrics and composition have taken this version to another level altogether."
The lyricist also found it challenging as three popular voices were supposed to sing the song. "I won't say nervous but yes it was a bit challenging for me to crack it. When I was told by the composer of the song Payal Dev that I have to collaborate with her as a lyricist on this track and Mika Singh, Badshah and Neha Kakkar will be singing the song, that's when it became a little challenging. Alll 4 are very particular about the lyrics especially when it's a recreation. So, keeping all the factors in mind and brief of the film by the director, I have delivered quirky lyrics to this blockbuster song and have also added a few punch lines and dialogues in the song," said Mohsin.
The song which also stars singers in it was earlier planned to have only Yami and Vikrant in it but the whole idea changed after the director decided to make it promotional number for Ginny Weds Sunny. "Earlier the song was supposed to get shoot with only leading actor and actress of the film but when the song was being recorded, our team suggested to the director, Vinod Bachchan that why don't you make this song as a promotional track of the film by featuring Mika Singh, Badshah and Neha Kakkar in it- that's how the whole concept got designed as the song has a lot of quirky and funny lyrics including Badshah's rap," said Mohsin.
The lyricist also disclosed his next projects, "I am currently working on Abhishek Sharma's Suraj pe mangal bhaari starring Diljt Dosanjh and Manoj Bajpayee and a few more music albums and singles."
